2. 2009 Horoscope
The 2009 Horoscope itself… When analysing any horoscope we look for ‘signatures’ or planetary combinations that carry a particular theme and influences. Most horoscopes… be they of people or periods of time… carry 2 or 3 primary signatures, and these must be woven together to form a complete picture of the interrelationship of forces that need to be synthesized, to bring to fruition the potential of the nativity. And this year for the first time I have chosen to offer an “esoteric”… or Soul centered reading on this chart, as it is rich in meaning from this perspective in ways no previous year charts have been for as long as I can remember.
Esoteric Astrology comes to us from the great occult writer Alice Bailey during the 1930s. This timing accords with the emergence of the ancient mystery teachings to be re-integrated back into modern awareness. The bottom line idea in this tradition is that planets are energetic forces that operate in “7 Ray Frequencies” and distribute their forces down through the 12 signs toward an eventual “spiritualising” of the person/business/country etc, so that its’ primary objective becomes the release of creative power toward selfless contribution into humanity. Included at the end of this article is a summary of the 7 Rays and 12 Signs “esoterically”.
3. Pluto In Capricorn
The first signature involves Sun in Capricorn (it is every year on January 1st) with Mars and Pluto also in Capricorn… they are all ‘conjunct’. This is a dynamic set of forces in anybody’s language! This potent combination speaks of the initiatory power of a new collective will of the highest order with a powerful 1st Ray influence. More details on this in the footnote if you are interested.(3) Using the 0 hour chart set for Greenwich these planets fall at the base of the Horoscope auguring the enactment of “will in action” toward initiating a foundation of new systems of governance within global society.
This triple conjunction of 1st Ray planets in the 1st Ray sign of Capricorn speaks of a major initiation into the next phase of human evolution. 2009 = 11 is a Master Number and contains the principle of “idealism”, and as the 11th sign is Aquarius… the sign of “humanity” we finally have the Formula in place for the beginning of the dramatic and sweeping changes that are so desperately needed!! Mind you with Mars in on the act here it appears that life will not be dull as 2009 opens. The saving grace in terms of the placement of Sun/ Mars/ Pluto in the 2009 chart is that they are not receiving any particularly nasty aspects from other planets…which is a good thing.
Trouble is that when these kind of forces combine even in the best of situations there’s a good chance the year will open with “all guns blazing”… as they say. (4) Pluto and Mars in the sign of success, ambition and goals offers us a sliding scale of options, from the most negative; raw and ruthless suppression from our ruling powers including armed intervention and/or a new wave of terrorism and conflict in general; to the most positive; enlightened proactive implementation of brave new policies and regulations that directly force current conservative systems to release their current inappropriate use of power. Or somewhere in the middle… or a bit of both. One thing’s for sure. 2009 will not be dull. Maintaining a position of objectivity regardless of any situation you find yourself in is absolutely the only way to go my friends. Knee jerk emotional reactions to anyone or anything in the year ahead will not serve you!
(3) So the first signature in the 2009 chart is an intensely powerful set of 1st Ray influences courtesy of Mars, Pluto and Sun all in the sign of Capricorn. The first Ray is the Ray of “Will and Power”, Mars is the urge to direct the will toward new fields of activity… to initialise and bring forth new energy, and rules the 4th Ray “Harmony through Conflict”; Pluto is the planet of power and transformation/ regeneration and rules the 1st ray “Will and Power”; and lastly the Sun is the primary urge to carry the light of the 2nd Ray “Love-Wisdom”. Capricorn itself rules 3 different Rays; Ray 1 “Will and Power”, Ray 3 “Active Intelligence” and Ray 7 “Ceremonial Order”. And Capricorn generally rules the established systems of government and beaurocracy that run the material systems of our planet.
(4) 2 days after I wrote these words the terrorist attack occurred in Mumbai/Bombay.
Oh have I mentioned that Pluto is now in Capricorn for the first time in 246 years? The last time he was in this sign in the 1760’s and 1770’s brought us the “Age of Enlightenment”, the Foundation of America, Discovery of Australia and the lead up to the French Revolution. Fun hey?? Yes this is a big one and it’s only just beginning as he will be in Capricorn until 2024. So begins the dismantling and rebirth of the current outmoded financial and governance systems that run our lives. The difference now…one cycle later… is that we are in the midst of a global crisis that is unprecedented. In the 1760/70s the discovery of Uranus heralded the birth of the Industrial Revolution. Now we have to fix the mess that we created along the way. Ironic indeed. Also worthy of a mention here is that the USA was founded during the last Pluto in Capricorn era. Thus the USA will experience the “Pluto return” to its’ national horoscope in 2022, so the process of transformation and regeneration for this country will culminate then. (For a more detailed insight into Pluto in Capricorn go to (CREATE LINK TO Pluto in Capricorn article) for a lengthy offering from yours truly written in late 2007.) So here’s to our “New Age of Enlightenment” my friends, and remember it is up to each of us to turn on the lights.
Pluto poked his nose into Capricorn in January 2008 and it did not take long for the initial cracks in the outmoded financial system to appear. As the year progressed
the reality of the deepening recession/depression has now hit home, and the fundamental support lower and middle class folks from all nations ( to say nothing of the poor in the 3rd world) are going to need from their governments may indeed be the trigger for the action that this signature heralds. How can it be that the US is still spending billions of dollars each week to continue the war in Iraq when 1 in 8 people in the US currently cannot afford the basic necessities…like food! And this is not just the “lower” class, as everyday folks are now joining food queues in every major city. Wow!!
