Year Ahead Report for 2008 - Maggie Kerr AAT APA

As this is a rather lengthy report I list the sections : ( click each section)

SECTION MENU:

Introduction

Welcome to my general overview of what the cosmos may have in store for us for 2008, and with such a healthy dose of planets in “earth” signs it is no surprise that we are entering “The International Year of Planet Earth”.

But don’t’ expect the new years fireworks to give us the call to action as the early weeks of 2008 dawn, as with retrograde Mars being a feature of the horoscope for 2008 (set for January 1st 00. 00 Greenwich), the enterprising spirit in each of us may be a little slow to get off the ground.  Indeed with Mars in Cancer around the festive season it will be a very family affair… for better or worse depending on your family!  Mars governs all things to do with action, initiation, assertion (or anger if he’s unhappy), courage and confidence. So until he moves into forward motion (literally) on January 30th it is wise to spend the month setting up your plans for the year, and generally connecting and networking with the people and information you need to set the balls in the rack and get the cue out once February rolls in.

A Little Touch of Numerology…
Also worthy of a major mention as we begin our analysis of the year ahead is the Numerology at work in the Divine Arithmetic that governs us all.  2007 = 9 so we have just experienced the final year of this past 9 year cycle.  So as we completed the last 6 weeks of 2007 with both Mars retrograde and the 9 year winding down, don’t feel bad if you joined so many of us who threw our hands in the air and conceded that we were just too pooped to fight the urge to wind down, throw out, release the past, and generally loose the plot. Which is not to say this is a depressing phase. On the contrary… as I feel quite excited about the future…for the first time in ages!

2008 = 10 = 1 Yes 2008 is a “one” year thus a new 9 year phase is about to open, and as with any opening it sometimes takes a while to begin to feel the stirrings of activity, which will not really begin to kick in until April when Mars in Cancer finally gets a scoot on and picks up speed to move past his position last November. More about Mars in the following section…

Jupiter and Saturn in Earth Signs…
We’ll be passing through a very interesting juxtaposition of planetary forces during 2008 as the 2 big societal planets Jupiter (12 year cycle) and Saturn (29 year cycle) spend the year in the earthy signs of Capricorn and Virgo respectively. The promise here holds very positive potential for implementation of major new structures and organisation on behalf of both environmental and socio-political groups. This follows on from their placements in Sagittarius and Leo last year allowing the lid off the pressure cooker as everyone finally got around to talking about the fact that our planet is in dire environmental straits.

This accords with the election of a new Labour Government here in Oz committed to getting on with the business of signing the Kyoto Accord and setting goals for greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental issues relevant not only to our own country, but also to join with international efforts.  In the words of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon “We are on the verge of a catastrophe – everywhere are disturbing signs of climate change’s effects”. On a positive note I am heartened to see “Go Green – Working towards a cleaner future” advertising supplements now appearing as regular features in newspapers.  This reminds us that commerce and industry are recognising that people now expect to be given the products necessary to “do their bit”, and that companies realise that future profits involve this fundamental shift in awareness.

Mars and Pluto Standoff…
The other pair of boys in the mix making for a very different ingredient in the 2008 Horoscope are Mars (2 year cycle) and Pluto (246 year cycle)  forming an opposition (yes that’s what the aspect is called and the name tells all) at the 29th degree of Gemini and Sagittarius respectively.  Known as the “Anorectic Degree” (I have always called this the anorexic degree!) 29 degrees of any sign is the final “moment” before it enters the next sign. Thus it offers the opportunity to complete any issues inherent in the signs involved. In this case Pluto will move into Capricorn on January 27th heralding the commencement of a new 16 year journey through this sign.  (More about this momentous event in the Pluto section below.)

This Mars (God of War) Pluto (Lord of the Underworld) standoff is threatening to say the least, issuing in another year of enormous tension between global factions on the international (Sagittarius) stage. Mars Gemini/Pluto Sagittarius is literally a “war of words” at an international level, and may involve major standoffs between factions of all types; political, commercial and ideological. Collectively I hope this also means that individuals begin to speak out more clearly on behalf of both their own and our community interest in working toward a sustainable future.  The Australian people just did this on November 24th when they clearly said “no” to the old world view offered by John Howard’s Liberal Party and “yes” to the current view offered by Kevin Rudd’s Labour Party; that we are all in this together and there is no longer any room for separatist view points.

The Moon in the 2008 Horoscope falls in Libra forming a challenging square aspect to the Sun in Capricorn.  This tells us of the absolute necessity for diplomatic and peace keeping activity both globally and personally. We need to see the word PEACE all over the place so get yourself a bumper sticker and use the word as much as you can.  Remember the “Hundredth Monkey Principle”… if enough of us do something positive then eventually the collective will “get it”!
